Being a leader of a country can be described as one of the most daunting positions one can ever occupy in his or her life due to the constant pressure and insults that comes with it.

The insults and pressure sometimes creeps into the heart, mind and skin especially when popular figures join the crusade – sometimes making the government unpopular.

Ghanaweb.com is reflecting on how some Ghanaian celebrities slammed president Akufo-Addo over poor governance in the wake of claims by investigative journalist Manasseh Awuni Azure that “Trusting this government is worse than investing in Menzgold” – a company that has been struggling to pay locked up funds of customers.

1. Nana Aba Anamoah

In November, 2019, media personality Nana Aba Anamoah heavily descended on president Akufo-Addo for making too many needless comments about Mahama and losing focus.

Reacting to Akufo-Addo’s assertions about his predecessor’s exploits while on tour in the Volta region, Nana Aba condemned his actions describing them as unnecessary.

“…the President should be telling us exactly how many jobs he has created in the Volta region alone. He should be telling us the numbers he’s added on in the Volta region alone. He shouldn’t be reminding us of what John Mahama did or didn’t do, said or hasn’t said, we are not interested in that. There are problems in the Volta region. He should be telling us of what he has done to address those problems. We don’t want him to be telling us about John Mahama. We already know what John Mahama did and didn’t do, we don’t need him to remind us…” she exclaimed.

2. Shatta Wale

In September, 2019, dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, expressed concern about the country’s economic challenges, saying it easily driving some Ghanaian youth into crime.

According to him, even though people might not intend to commit crime, they do so in order to provide for their families, but end up being tagged permanently as criminals, and sometimes get killed in the process.

“People are complaining too much, that there’s no money, their businesses are collapsing. These things bring armed robbery and other things. That’s why I’m even releasing more songs but people aren’t aware. I’m just trying to take people’s minds off stress. I’m trying to put controversial stuff in the industry. The country is becoming hotter and hotter, I won’t lie. Each and every day I hear people say there’s no money and that shouldn’t happen in Ghana,” Shatta made these statements in an interview on Kumasi-based Luv FM.

3. A Plus

Outspoken Ghanaian musician Kwame Asare Obeng widely known as A-Plus has on countless occasions expressed his utmost disappointment in the Akufo-Addo-led government.

The known ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) sympathizer once viciously slammed his former mentor, Akufo-Addo in a Facebook post, saying the first gentleman of the land is gradually “becoming the worse president ever” in the history of the country.

His post was in reaction to comments made by the president that some greedy criminals are sabotaging his government.

4. Lydia Forson

Actress Lydia Forson indicated that she is not impressed with the general performance of the current government.

The opinionated actress slammed Akufo-Addo led government and added that the president has failed to deliver on its promises.

She disclosed this to AJ Sarpong, host of Hall of Fame on Citi TV in November 2019.

5. Yvonne Nelson

In June, 2019, popular actress Yvonne Nelson criticised the NPP government and opined that it has failed Ghanaians.

According to her, the vision 2020 promise Akufo-Addo made to Ghanaians as part of his campaign in 2016 hasn’t come to fruition.

In a tweet sighted by Ghanaweb.com, Yvonne said Ghana is even worse now.

“Remember vision 2020? And all the stuff our leaders told us? Well 2020 is in 6months. The country is even worse now! Sometimes I wonder…..how do we have all the resources and still remain in such poverty!” The actress noted.
